Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) is the strategic process of managing a product's entire journey, from initial idea (inception/design) through development, manufacturing, service, and eventual disposal, integrating people, data, processes, and systems to optimize efficiency, cut costs, and foster innovation across its complete lifespan. It involves managing product data (like CAD files, specs, changes) in a central system, often called a "digital thread," to enable seamless collaboration between engineering, supply chain, and support teams, ensuring products meet goals for quality, cost, and time-to-market.
