Problem Solving Techniques is a 4-credit, 75-hour First Semester course offered at National Engineering College under SDG 4 (Quality Education). The curriculum builds core computational skills, progressing from algorithmic design, control structures, and arrays to modular functions, sorting, searching, pointers, dynamic memory, and file handling. Theory learning outcomes (CO1–CO5) are evaluated through CAT exams (50%), cognitive coding assignments (30%), and affective tools like viva and presentations (20%). Practical domain outcomes (CO6–CO8) are assessed via Skillrack coding challenges, lab exercises, model exams, and viva sessions. Instructors deliver content using interactive lectures, hands-on practice, C Tutor visualizations, role-playing activities, and online resources like NPTEL and Swayam. The prescribed foundational textbooks for the course are Sprankle & Hubbard’s Problem Solving and Programming Concepts and R.G. Dromey’s How to Solve it by Computer.
